'COLOURING FOR SANTA CLAUS.’
During the month of December hundreds of children visited the ‘Rotary Santa’ in the Park View Shopping Mall, Whitley Bay.
Whilst the children waited their turn to see Santa, many of them put their colouring skills to good use by entering the Rotary Christmas Tree Colouring Competition. By Christmas Eve there were many completed pictures from which to pick a winner who would receive family tickets to see this year’s pantomime 'Aladdin' at the Whitley Bay Playhouse.
The Rotary Club judges had some difficult decisions to make, but finally chose 9 year old Lexi Cable from Monkseaton, who we later discovered had won the competition in the previous year as well! Lexi said, ‘I have spent a lot of time on my picture this year trying to make it perfect and now I’m so pleased that I can’t believe that I’ve won the competition again! and a late Christmas surprise has come for me and my family, which is just brilliant.’
Liz Hayes, Senior Vice- President who made the presentation said, ‘Our collection this year has been a great success and the entries for the colouring competition have been very popular and we are all amazed that Lexi has won again, something which has never happened before!'. In addition Liz said, ‘We would like to record our thanks to the staff and owners from the Park View Shopping Mall for allowing us yet again to use their facilities and enable the children to meet Santa'.
As in previous years we have had many visitors and are delighted to announce that we have been able to raise over £1,600, to be spent with local charities and good causes.’
